I've been giving talks and consulting on search technologies for a while now, and I'm now happy to announce I'll be delivering a 2-day course on search technologies in London starting this December. The course will be hosted by the great SkillsMatter people in central London.

From the course description:

Search engine technologies are everywhere. It's not only when you Google that you use one; the technology behind search engines is also used to allow for easy information drill-down, live reporting, auto-completion, spatial search and more.

This course is designed to quickly get you up to speed with the field of search technologies and information retrieval. By working with leading open-source products Lucene and ElasticSearch, doing hands-on exercises and discussing real-world challenges, you will learn how to incorporate a search engine in your products for better user experience and profit.

LEARN HOW TO:

  • Incorporate bleeding edge search technologies within your application to provide full-text search capabilities
  • Utilize full-text search for various seemingly unrelated tasks
  • Solve UI/UX problems with a unique toolset search engines provide
  • Tackle real-world search problems
  • Scale search solutions up and out

This course is aimed for software developers with hands-on experience in either Java or .NET, looking for acquiring or extending their knowledge and skills in the area of information retrieval. The course doesn't aim for any specific platform or programming language, but use of either Java or C# for the exercises is encouraged.
